“Our wines reflect both a proud winemaking heritage and contemporary, innovative Australian wine styles - crafted and bottled at the family estate in Mudgee, Australia. I hope you enjoy drinking these wines as much as we enjoyed making them.” Robert Oatley
Robert Oatley Rosé of Sangiovese is a distinctively bright, modern style – dry and a little savory, with bright red fruit flavors and a crisp refreshing finish.
Region Notes
One of Australia's oldest wine regions, located 162 miles northwest of Sydney on the central western tablelands of New South Wales, Mudgee is home to the country's first plantings of Sangiovese and Barbera – on the Oatley family estates. Situated at over 1,500 feet and with soils of ancient red clay loam of volcanic origin, the family's vineyards deliver high quality grapes that with careful nurturing create wines of outstanding varietal character, complexity and balance.
Vintage Notes
We enjoyed a terrific 2010 growing season with a particularly long cool spell during ripening which helped maintain freshness and vibrancy in our grapes and allowed us to harvest at optimum flavor ripeness.
Winemaking Notes
Harvested at night and treated like we would make an aromatic white, the sangiovese grapes are kept cool and the juice immediately crushed off the skins to give the vibrant yet pale color. It has been deliberately made at the drier end of the rosé spectrum.
